The inflammation and infection of the appendix are known as appendicitis. The symptoms of appendicitis could frequently be obscure but typically begins with abdominal pain in the center of the abdomen that gradually, settles over the right, lower portion of the abdomen.
Symptoms of appendicitis?
Abdominal pain – Dull pain near the navel or the upper or lower abdomen that becomes sharp as it moves to the lower right abdomen; this is usually the first sign, but it occurs in less than half of appendicitis cases.
Mild fever – Appendicitis usually causes a fever between 99°F (37.2°C) and 100.5°F (38°C). If the appendix bursts, the resulting infection could cause your fever to rise. A fever greater than 101°F (38.3°) and an increase in heart rate may mean that the appendix has ruptured.
Digestive upset – Appendicitis can cause nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. The patient may suffer constipation or develop severe diarrhoea. If the patient is having trouble passing gas, this too could be a sign of partial or total obstruction of the bowel and could be related to underlying appendicitis.
Atypical symptoms – In many cases, atypical symptoms appear, including – Dull or sharp pain anywhere in the upper or lower abdomen, back, or rectum. Painful urination or vomiting precedes abdominal pain. How to Lower the Risk of appendicitis? You can’t prevent appendicitis, but there are steps you can take to lower your risk.
